Did you know all cats are susceptible to flea infestations? Fleas can cause severe itching and even more serious problems for kittens and geriatric cats, including anemia or an increased risk of death. Symptoms of flea itching can include a mild itch ranging to severe, causing irritation and even hair loss. Fleas are unable to fly, but they are very small and quick, with the ability to jump great distances. It will usually be very difficult to spot the insect itself, but it does leave traces, such as black flakes, also known as "flea dirt."
A cat's flea infestation can be treated in three simple steps:

Eliminate biting fleas from your cat
For quick relief from biting fleas, Capstar Flea Treatment Tablets help kill more than 90% of biting fleas off cats in six hours or less. For additional flea relief, consider using Frontline Spray on your cat and a flea comb such as the Resco Pro Series Flea Comb, which helps remove fleas from your cat's fur while also serving as a grooming tool.

Treat your cat's environment
Treating your cat for a flea infestation is only part of the problem since fleas will continue to lay eggs and continue the life cycle. Treating your cat's environment with the use of carpet sprays, powders, room foggers, and yard sprays can help eliminate flea eggs and larvae that potentially develop into biting fleas.

Prevent future flea infestations
Battling a current flea infestation requires persistence and multiple treatments for your cat, as well as to or in your home, to ensure the fleas and their offspring are eliminated. The easiest way to prevent future flea breakouts on your cat and in your home is by using a monthly preventative year-round such as Revolution, Comfortis, or other popular flea prevention products.

Tip

Some cats may ingest fleas infected with tapeworms, which can be treated with HomeoPet Wrm Clear.
