Pets, just like humans, experience anxiety that can manifest in different ways.
They may experience situational anxiety, such as a stressful vet visit or grooming appointment, they may have trouble adjusting to a move or a new family member, or they may have chronic anxiety issues that affect their everyday life.
Signs of anxiety in pets include having accidents, chewing or scratching inappropriate objects, they may lick or chew at their skin, or they may bark or howl excessively.
Anxiety in pets can be treated in several different ways. You may want to try holistic remedies for anxiety first, or you may use them in conjunction with training or conventional medications. Talk to your vet before trying a holistic remedy, especially if your pet is pregnant, nursing, or takes medications.

CBD Oil
Most animals, including cats and dogs, have what’s known as an endocannabinoid system with receptors throughout their body. This system helps regulate pain reception, appetite, metabolism, immunity, and many other bodily processes.
Cannabinoids are produced naturally by the body, and they’re also produced by hemp plants. Pet products that contain Hemp/CBD oil can help relieve many symptoms, including anxiety, by engaging your pet’s cannabinoid receptors.

Probiotics
You may know that probiotics help build up a healthy biodome in the gut to improve digestion. But did you know that the gut also influences your pet’s mental and emotional health? Recent studies suggest that probiotics can help reduce anxiety in pets, as well as people and other animals.

Pheromones
Pheromones are chemicals emitted by humans and other animals that can influence the emotional state and behavior of other individuals.
When your cat rubs their face against vertical surfaces in your home, their cheeks produce a calming pheromone to mark those areas as “safe.” Products like Feliway contain synthetic forms of the feline facial pheromone to help your cat feel safe and secure.
Synthetic pheromone products may also mimic the pheromones a nursing queen or dam emits to promote bonding between her and her puppies or kittens. These products can help you reduce stress in a multi-pet household, especially if you’ve recently brought home a new pet.

Herbal Medicine
Many holistic remedies have been used for thousands of years, especially those used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Now, many of these remedies have been observed to have potent effects, and the chemical compounds can be extracted from plants for a safe, easy to consume natural remedy - no need to go foraging for herbs.
Magnolia bark extract is one example. It contains honokiol, a compound that reduces anxiety and can work as a sleep aid.
L-theanine is an amino acid found in black and green tea that has been shown to induce relaxation without causing drowsiness.
Both magnolia bark extract and L-theanine are found in Solliquin calming treats for dogs and cats.

Do Holistic Remedies For Anxiety In Pets Have Side Effects?
Holistic remedies, though natural and generally safe, can interact with certain medications. Some pets can experience allergic reactions to them. Always talk to your vet before starting a new supplement if you’re unsure, or if your pet’s condition does not improve.
