DO NOT USE!!!!
BOTH of our cats have been lethargic, drinking excess water, not meowing, and overall being weird. We realized they have been licking it out of our youngest cats ear. We stopped the drops immediately and called the vet. Please do not use this product.

Watch your cat carefully!!
My 4 year old Persian cat had a yeast/bacterial ear infection in both ears, and she was prescribed a 7 days course of Tresaderm. Just 2-3 days after completion, she began vomiting blood, lost her apatite, was lethargic, and was not the same happy cat. She was hospitalized and found to have elevated liver enzymes. None of the vets knew what could've caused such an upset, but after supportive care and recovery, she was back to herself again. Fast forward 3 weeks to now - she went back to her primary to follow up on her hospital visit and recheck her liver. While examining her, they said the ear infection hadn't quite cleared up in her left ear, and they gave me more Tresaderm for another 5 days. Lo-and-behold, she is now lethargic and having diarrhea, and is showing the same decline she did the first time. It wasn't until I found these reviews here that this all clicked, and I now see that the Tresaderm has been wreaking havoc on my cat. I am stopping this medication immediately and will be seeking an alternative with my vet. PLEASE monitor your animal closely when using this medication.

Concerned
Less than 2 days after completing a 10-day course of this medication, my seemingly otherwise healthy cat stopped eating and ultimately experienced liver failure and death. Ultrasounds and liver biopsy were not able to identify any specific cause (e.g. no cancer identified).

Tresaderm was prescribed by my cat's vet. This medication got rid of the bad bacteria and fungus in his ears. His ears were swabbed just a few days ago, and the doctor told me his ears are now clear.

DANGEROUS FOR CATS
I used this on my normally active cat who was within days of use completely lethargic, drinking a ton of water, and having frequent urination. I stopped the drops and he's so much better. DO NOT USE!!!! FIND ANOTHER ALTERNATIVE!!!!

Dangerous, use with caution!
My 4yr old Maine Coon (in perfect health) was prescribed Tresaderm two times. The first Tresaderm treatment was in January of 2022. Immediately following treatment my cat had severe diarrhea, became lethargic, showed no interest in eating and then began throwing up. She was hospitalized and her blood work showed extremely elevated ALT, AST, Alk Phosphatase, and CPK levels. Essentially her liver was beginning to fail. After a month of antibiotics, she was able to recover fully. However at the time no connection was made between Tresaderm and the illness. Just 3 weeks ago, she was prescribed Tresaderm again, and the same exact pattern began to happen after finishing treatment. Luckily this time, I recognized the connection between Tresaderm and the symptoms. The blood work showed the same elevated levels, and she has begun another round of antibiotics. Unfortunately my Vet is not open to the possibility that this is related to Tresaderm. However, upon doing more research, and from other reviews, this does seem to be a side effect (somewhat rare) that is occurring with other cats. I have opened up a case with the drug company, and I encourage anyone else to do the same who is having a similar issue. The name of the company is: BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM ANIMAL HEALTH USA INC. 3239 SATELLITE BLVD., DULUTH, GA, 30096 And they can be reached at: 1-800-325-9167 I am also attaching pictures of the blood work, in case anyone having similar issues would like to compare.

What is Tresaderm?

TRESADERM® (thiabendazole, dexamethasone, neomycin sulfate solution) is indicated as an aid in the treatment of certain bacterial, mycotic, and inflammatory dermatoses and otitis externa in dogs and cats. Both acute and chronic forms of these skin disorders respond to treatment with TRESADERM®. Many forms of dermatosis are caused by bacteria (chiefly Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa). The efficacy of neomycin as an antibacterial agent, with activity against both gram-negative and gram-positive pathogens, is well documented. Moreover, these organisms often act as opportunistic or concurrent pathogens that may complicate already established mycotic skin disorders, or otoacariasis caused by Otodectes cynotis. The principal etiologic agents of dermatomycoses in dogs and cats are species of the genera Microsporum and Trichophyton. Detailed studies in various laboratories have verified the significant activity thiabendazole displays against the important dermatophytes. Dexamethasone, a synthetic adrenocorticoid steroid, inhibits the reaction of connective tissue to injury and suppresses the classic inflammatory manifestations of skin disease. The formulation for TRESADERM® topical solution combines these several activities in a complementary form for control of the discomfort and direct treatment of dermatitis and otitis externa produced by the abovementioned infectious agents.

Suitable For:

Cats and Dogs

Benefits:

  • Successfully fights bacterial infections of the skin and ears
  • Drops make ear application easy
  • Results in a week or less
  • Available in a convenient drop form.
  • Broad-spectrum action that can help resolve certain bacterial and fungal infections plus relieve inflammation.
  • Can be used topically on the skin and in the ears.

How does Tresaderm work?

Just apply twice daily as directed by your veterinarian to aid in the treatment of certain acute and chronic forms of bacterial, fungal, and inflammatory skin conditions, as well as otitis externa. Just be sure to keep TRESADERM® (thiabendazole, dexamethasone, neomycin sulfate solution) refrigerated when not in use. Limit treatment period to one week. TRESADERM® contains thiabendazole, an antifungal agent, dexamethasone, a corticosteroid and neomycin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic. These ingredients help to kill susceptible bacteria and fungi/yeast plus relieve associated inflammation. For reliable results combined with simple application, ask your veterinarian about TRESADERM® topical solution.

Cautions:

TRESADERM® does need to be refrigerated and should be kept between 36°- 46°F at all times. If you forget to refrigerate TRESADERM® solution or leave it out accidentally, talk to your veterinarian. Some refrigerated medications can be left out for short periods (i.e., shipping) without losing their efficacy. Always consult with your veterinarian before giving your pet medicines that weren’t stored properly. TRESADERM® does not treat ear mites. If you suspect your pet has ear mites, see your veterinarian for an exam and find out what she recommends for treatment. TRESADERM® does expire, so be sure to check the expiration date on your medication. You should also make sure to store your TRESADERM® in the refrigerator. Never use expired or unrefrigerated TRESADERM® except on the advice of your veterinarian. For topical use in dogs and cats. Avoid contact with eyes. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. For any specific product questions, please call the Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health customer service line number at 1-888-637-4251.
