How does Credelio for Cats work?

Lotilaner, the active ingredient in Credelio, is an ectoparasiticide belonging to the isoxazoline group. Lotilaner inhibits insect and acarine gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-gated chloride channels. This inhibition blocks the transfer of chloride ions across cell membranes, which results in uncontrolled neuromuscular activity leading to death of insects and acarines. The selective toxicity of lotilaner between insects and acarines and mammals may be inferred by the differential sensitivity of the insects and acarines’ GABA receptors versus mammalian GABA receptors.

Cautions:

Not for human use. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children, dogs, cats, and other animals to prevent accidental ingestion or overdose. Active ingredient lotilaner is a member of the isoxazoline class of drugs. This class has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions including tremors, incoordination, and seizures. Neurologic adverse reactions have been reported in cats receiving isoxazoline class drugs, even in cats without a history of neurologic disorders. Use with caution in cats with a history of neurologic disorders. The safety of Credelio CAT has not been established in breeding, pregnant and lactating cats. The effectiveness of Credelio CAT against black-legged ticks in kittens less than 6 months of age has not been evaluated. The most frequently reported adverse reactions are weight loss, rapid breathing and vomiting. For complete safety information, ask your veterinarian.

Great for My Semi-Feral Barn Cat
There's no way I could put anything applied to skin on her. I crushed it up with a spoonful or so of wet food and she eats it just fine.

Unbelievably effective
Ive been a cat-owner my whole life and always used topical flea treatments. i had no idea there is now a pill option as of July 2023! A new medication! We gave the pill to my cat and immediately he started itching all over. I was worried he was having an allergic reaction so i called the vet. The vet advised that the itching was because the meds had entered my cats bloodstream and the fleas were freaking out (hyperactive) and all fleas would be dead within 6 hours. It worked exactly that way. 6 hours later my cat has no fleas!! So effective! The fleas die when they bite the cat. My cat doesnt itch anymore and the pill is effective for 35 days although advised to give monthly. I am amazed.

Fantastic!
When the other brands of topical flea control stopped working on my cat, I switched to Credelio last summer and I have not seen a flea on my cat since then! Much easier to administer via a chewable pill that can be mixed with his food instead trying to squirt the liquid from that tiny tube onto the skin of a squirming cat!

Not a great
I purchased this product for three cats to replace comfortis since it's unavailable. Credilio truly leaves something to be desired. It's effectiveness is fair and only seems to last 2, at best 3 weeks for 2 shorthair cats that go are indoor/outdoor and 1 longhair indoor. For the price to be the same as comfortis, I would expect it to last as long and be as effective. Hopefully, there will be another non topical choice that's better than this soon. Please come back comfortis.
