What is Posatex Otic Suspension?

Posatex Otic Suspension is an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal medication for dogs that treats otitis externa associated with susceptible strains of yeast and bacteria. Posatex Otic Suspension requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

Suitable for:

Dogs with Otitis Externa

Benefits:

  • Highly Effective & Safe: A strong, yet gentle solution for severe cases of otitis externa in dogs.
  • Treats Otitis Externa the First Time: Triple-action, once-a-day treatment for 7 days for even the most stubborn cases associated with susceptible strains of yeast and bacteria in canines.
  • Veterinarian Recommended: Veterinarians use Posatex most often to treat recurrent otitis externa and cases with heavy Malassezia infection, and they report excellent treatment results with Posatex
  • Antibacterial Effect (Orbifloxacin): Effective against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria  including: Pseudomonas aeruginosa, coagulase-positive staphylococci, and Enterococcus faecalis.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Action (Mometasone Furoate Monohydrate): An effective corticosteroid that rapidly reduces discomfort, erythema, and swelling. Mometasone rapidly controls inflammation without adrenocortical suppression.
  • Antifungal Activity (Posaconazole): Highly effective and safe for even the most stubborn cases. Provides potent, broad-spectrum efficacy, including againstMalassezia pachydermatis

How does Posatex Otic Suspension work?

Posatex Otic Suspension is an FDA approved, Veterinary ear medication that works by combining a broad spectrum antibiotic called Orbifloxacin, a potent anti-inflammatory agent called Mometasone Furoate Monohydrate and Posaconazole, a highly effective antifungal to treat otitis externa in dogs. When Posatex is applied to the ear canal, it works locally to reduce the symptoms of the infection (such as redness, swelling, and discharge) while eliminating the bacteria and fungi responsible for the infection. The suspension is typically used once daily for seven days, depending on the severity of the infection and the veterinarian's prescription.

Cautions:

Not for use in humans. Keep out of reach in children. Do not administer orally. Discontinue use if hearing loss is observed. Posatex Otic Suspension is contraindicated in dogs with known or suspected hypersensitivity to quinolones, mometasone furoate monohydrate, or posaconazole. Do not use in dogs with known tympanic perforation. Avoid prolonged or repeated use of Posatex. Long-term use of topical otic corticosteroids has been associated with adrenocortical suppression and iatrogenic hyperadrenocorticism in dogs The safe use of Posatex Otic Suspension in dogs used for breeding purposes, during pregnancy or in lactating bitches, has not been evaluated. The systemic administration of quinolones has been shown to produce cartilage erosions of weight bearing joints and other signs of arthropathy in immature animals of various species.

Concerns
Recently our vet prescribed us this for our dogs ear. When picking up the medication we noticed its not sealed at all and in the 15gm bottle only the bottom 1/4 inch is actually filled with 1 1/2 inches of air space?

Vet prescribed Posatex for Hot spots.
Our veterinarian in Los Angeles prescribed this for topical application to hot spots ...it is a wonderful drug. It decreases inflammation, treats infections both bacterially and fungal if present and has an anesthetic quality to quiet the itching. Expensive but excellent

Works for our dog!
This had been prescribed to our dog for an infection years ago and had used it when his ear would flare up now and then. Recently, we ran out and our vet no longer prescribed it so we tried their alternative but it didn't work so we were so pleased when we found it here!

Problem Ears
Dakota started shaking her head and ears because her ears were bothering her so much. At night she would wake me up shaking her head and ears. I tried everything over-the-counter with no success. I took her to the vet and they proscribed Posatex. Works very fast and now Dakota is happy and I am happy.

best treatment thus far for my Springer's ears
My vet prescribed this for my seven year old, ear infection-prone Springer Spaniel, and so far it seems to be working much better than any other treatment I've tried. The ver's price was actually lower - 28.00 - than the price listed here, which surprised me. application seems a little easier with the small bottle and elongated tip; I run warm water over it briefly before administering, so it won't be such an uncomfortable shock. We live in the NC mountains, without air conditioning, and the humid summers provide the perfect environment for infection; thankfully I am beginning to finally feel hopeful about keeping the problem at bay.

I saw the difference after the first day!
Now I know to get it from here to save quite a bit of money. My beagle is prone to getting ear infections because of his big floppy ears. The redness was already down after one day. I still haven't finished the entire dosage, but so far it's working great! Hoping he doesn't get it again for a long time. I'll be using the ear flush, the vet gave me, weekly to prevent the infections from coming back.

Best Ear Cleaner For Long Eared Dogs
I have seriously gone threw every ear suspension and cleaner known to man. I tried natural home remedies, all the over the counter, and prescription ones you can to deal with my dogs ear problems. The only medicine I have used that kills it with no problems and eliminates all the excess moisture in my pups ear is Posatex. I don't know what it is about solution, but it seriously has worked miracles on my dog (95lbs chocolate lab) and he's had the same problem 3 separate times. I wish you didn't need a prescription for it- it works so gooooood.
