Posatex Otic Suspension is an anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal medication for dogs that treats otitis externa associated with susceptible strains of yeast and bacteria. Posatex Otic Suspension requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

How does Posatex Otic Suspension work?
Posatex Otic Suspension is an FDA approved, Veterinary ear medication that works by combining a broad spectrum antibiotic called Orbifloxacin, a potent anti-inflammatory agent called Mometasone Furoate Monohydrate and Posaconazole, a highly effective antifungal to treat otitis externa in dogs. When Posatex is applied to the ear canal, it works locally to reduce the symptoms of the infection (such as redness, swelling, and discharge) while eliminating the bacteria and fungi responsible for the infection. The suspension is typically used once daily for seven days, depending on the severity of the infection and the veterinarian's prescription.
Cautions:
Not for use in humans. Keep out of reach in children. Do not administer orally. Discontinue use if hearing loss is observed. Posatex Otic Suspension is contraindicated in dogs with known or suspected hypersensitivity to quinolones, mometasone furoate monohydrate, or posaconazole. Do not use in dogs with known tympanic perforation. Avoid prolonged or repeated use of Posatex. Long-term use of topical otic corticosteroids has been associated with adrenocortical suppression and iatrogenic hyperadrenocorticism in dogs The safe use of Posatex Otic Suspension in dogs used for breeding purposes, during pregnancy or in lactating bitches, has not been evaluated. The systemic administration of quinolones has been shown to produce cartilage erosions of weight bearing joints and other signs of arthropathy in immature animals of various species.

What is the most important information I should know about Posatex Otic Suspension?
Posatex Otic Suspension is a prescription medication FDA approved for use in dogs only. It is available in a 7.5 gm, 15 gm, and 30 gm plastic dropper bottle. Use this medication for the full amount of time prescribed by your veterinarian, even if your pet appears to be better. Symptoms may improve before the infection is completely healed. Shake well before use. The usual dose for dogs weighing less than 30 lbs is 4 drops into the ear canal daily. For dogs weighing 30 lbs or more, the dose is 8 drops into the ear canal daily. Therapy should continue for 7 consecutive days. Avoid getting this medication in your pet's eyes, nose or mouth.
What should I discuss with my veterinarian before using Posatex Otic Suspension?
Tell your veterinarian if your pet has ever had an allergic reaction to this medication or any of the individual ingredients or quinolones. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is pregnant or lactating.
How should Posatex Otic Suspension be applied?
Shake well before use. Apply this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. If you do not understand these directions ask your pharmacist or veterinarian to explain them to you. Avoid getting Posatex Otic Suspension in your dog's eyes, nose or mouth.
What happens if I miss using a dose of Posatex Otic Suspension?
Apply the missed dose as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the dose you missed and apply the next regularly scheduled dose. Do not use a double dose of this medication unless otherwise directed by your veterinarian.
What happens if I overdose my pet on Posatex Otic Suspension?
An overdose of Posatex Otic Suspension is unlikely to occur. If you suspect that a much larger than normal dose has been used, or that the medication has been ingested, contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room.
What should I avoid while applying Posatex Otic Suspension?
Avoid using any other medications in your pet's ear unless instructed to by your veterinarian. Do not use Posatex Otic Suspension in dogs allergic to it or any of the individual ingredients. Use with caution in pregnant animals. Do not use in dogs with perforated ear drums. Discontinue use of this medication if hearing loss is noted during treatment. Do not use this product beyond the recommended dose of 7 days.
What are the possible side effects of Posatex Otic Suspension?
Side effects associated with this medication are related to the individual ingredients. The systemic administration of quinolones such as orbifloxacin has been shown to produce cartilage erosion of weight bearing joints and other signs of arthropathy in immature animals of various species. Mometasone is a corticosteroid but is applied topically. Long term use of topical otic corticosteroids has been associated with adrenocortical suppression and iatrogenic hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing's disease). Posaconazole is an antifungal. Other side effects may also occur. Talk to your veterinarian about any side effect that seems unusual or bothersome to your pet.
What other drugs will affect Posatex Otic Suspension?
Posatex is contraindicated in dogs with known or suspected hypersensitivity to quinolones, mometasone furoate monohydrate, or posaconazole. Avoid using other ear medications without first talking to your veterinarian. Drugs other than those listed may also interact with Posatex Otic Suspension. Talk to your veterinarian or pharmacist before taking or using any other prescription or over the counter medicines, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal products.
Storage
Store at temperatures between 2°- 30°C (35.6°- 86°F).
Posatex Otic Suspension Directions:
- Shake well before use.
- For dogs weighing less than 30 lbs. instill 4 drops of Posatex Otic Suspension once daily into the ear canal.
- For dogs weighing 30 lbs. or more, instill 8 drops once daily into the ear canal.
- Therapy should continue for 7 consecutive days.
For best results, warm the Posatex Otic Suspension bottle in your hand for a few minutes before applying it. This makes the solution more comfortable for your dog and helps it spread more evenly in the ear canal, enhancing the treatment's effectiveness.
