How does Mometamax Otic Suspension work?
Mometamax is an FDA approved, veterinary medication used to treat ear infections in dogs. It is a combination of three active ingredients: mometasone furoate, gentamicin sulfate, and clotrimazole. Each component plays a specific role in treating ear infections: Mometasone Furoate: This is a potent corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, itching, and swelling in the ear. It helps to relieve the symptoms associated with ear infections. Gentamicin Sulfate:This is an antibiotic that targets and kills bacteria causing the infection. It is effective against a wide range of bacteria, including those commonly responsible for ear infections in dogs. Clotrimazole: This is an antifungal agent that treats and prevents fungal infections in the ear. It is especially useful in treating infections caused by yeast, which are common in dogs' ears.
Cautions:
For Otic Use in Dogs Only. Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian. Keep this and all drugs out of the reach of children. Do not use Mometamax Otic Suspension in pregnant dogs. The use of these components has been associated with deafness or partial hearing loss in a small number of sensitive dogs (e.g., geriatric), although it is usually temporary. If hearing or vestibular dysfunction is noted, discontinue use immediately and flush the ear canal thoroughly with a non-ototoxic solution. If hypersensitivity to any of the components occurs, treatment should be discontinued and appropriate therapy instituted. Concomitant use of drugs known to induce ototoxicity should be avoided. Do not use in dogs with known tympanic perforation. Administration of recommended doses beyond 7 days may result in delayed wound healing. Avoid ingestion.
