What is Equioxx?
Equioxx is a non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for the control of pain and inflammation associated with osteoarthritis in horses. Just one convenient, daily dose lasts up to 24 hours and can help improve your horse's mobility. It is the only NSAID allowed for use up to 14 days. It's available in a chewable tablet and a paste for easy administration. Equioxx requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

How does Equioxx work?
Equioxx is a coxib class NSAID that targets COX-2 (cyclooxygenase-2), which help the chemicals responsible for pain and inflammation, while sparing COX-1 (cyclooxygenase-1), which help maintain normal bodily functions like blood flow to the kidneys and gastric mucosal protection.
Cautions:
Treatment with Equioxx should be terminated if signs such as inappetence, colic, abnormal feces, or lethargy are observed. Use with caution in horses that are dehydrated, on diuretic therapy, or have existing renal, cardiovascular, and/or hepatic dysfunction. The safe use of Equioxx in horses less than 1 year in age, horses used for breeding, or in pregnant or lactating mares has not been evaluated. Avoid use in horses with a known hypersensitivity to firocoxib or other NSAIDs.

What is the most important thing I should know about Equioxx?

What should I discuss with my veterinarian before giving Equioxx to my pet?
Tell your veterinarian if your pet has a known hypersensitivity to firocoxib or other NSAIDs. Tell your veterinarian if your pet is breeding, pregnant, or lactating. Let your veterinarian know if your pet is currently taking other medications or supplements. Tell your veterinarian if your pet has ever had kidney disease, liver disease, or a gastrointestinal ulcer.
How should Equioxx be given?
Equioxx should be given according to your veterinarian's instructions. The recommended dosage of Equioxx Tablets is one 57 mg tablet administered orally to horses weighing 800-1,300 lbs, once daily for up to 14 days. The recommended dosage of Equioxx Paste is 0.045 mg/lb of body weight once daily for up to 14 days. Do not exceed 14 days of treatment. Equioxx Paste comes in an easy-to-use oral syringe with graduated markings that will treat 250 lbs of body weight. To deliver the correct dose, round your horse's body weight up to the nearest 50 lb increment (if the body weight is an exact 50 lb increment, do not round up). Equioxx can be given with or without food
What are the potential side effects of Equioxx?
The most common side effects of Equioxx can include sores or ulcers on the tongue, lips, and skin of the mouth and face. Gastrointestinal and liver problems have also been reported with other NSAIDs. Treatment with Equioxx should be terminated if signs such as inappetence, colic, abnormal feces, or lethargy are observed.
What happens if I miss giving a dose of Equioxx?
Give the next dose as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume a regular dosing schedule. Do not double dose.
What happens if I overdose my pet on Equioxx?
If an overdose is suspected, contact your veterinarian immediately.
What should I avoid while giving Equioxx to my pet?
Avoid giving your horse other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as NSAIDs or corticosteroids.
What other drugs will affect Equioxx?
The concomitant use of protein-bound drugs with Equioxx hasn't been studied in horses. The influence of concomitant drugs that might interfere with the effectiveness of Equioxx hasn't been evaluated. Drug compatibility should be monitored in horses requiring adjunctive therapy.

- Equioxx should be given exactly as directed by your veterinarian.
- The recommended dosage of Equioxx Tablets is one 57 mg tablet administered orally to horses weighing 800-1,300 lbs, once daily for up to 14 days.
- The recommended dosage of Equioxx Paste is 0.045 mg/lb administered orally once daily for up to 14 days.
- One syringe can treat a horse up to 1,250 lbs.
- Each marking on the syringe will treat 250 lbs of body weight, and each notch corresponds to approximately a 50 lb weight increment. To deliver the correct dose, round your horse's body weight up to the nearest 50 lb increment (if the body weight is an exact 50 lb increment, do not round up).
- Do not exceed 14 days of treatment.
