What is Bravecto?
Bravecto is an effective flea and tick prevention that comes in tasty, easy-to-administer chews and non-greasy, easy-to-apply topical solution for dogs and a topical solution for cats. What makes Bravecto different than many other flea and tick preventatives is that Bravecto provides long lasting protection of up to 12 weeks per dose, meaning less chances of missing a dose. Bravecto Chews for Dogs starts killing fleas within 2 hours and controls 4 tick species: black-legged tick (deer tick), American dog tick, brown dog tick, and lone star tick. All Bravecto products eliminate current flea infestations and prevent new ones from developing, protecting your pet from all flea life cycles from egg to adulthood. Additionally, both Bravecto Topical for Dogs and Bravecto Topical for Cats repel fleas and ticks.
How does Bravecto work?
Bravecto's active ingredient is fluralaner, a safe and effective ingredient for killing fleas and ticks and controlling infestations. For Bravecto Chews, when ingested, the medication quickly reaches tissue fluids just below your dog's skin. When fleas and ticks feed on your dog, they ingest the fluralaner and die. For Bravecto Topical for dogs and cats, after topical application, the fluralaner also quickly reaches tissue fluids under the skin, and when fleas and ticks feed on your dog or cat, they die.
What makes Bravecto safe for your dog?
Bravecto is an extremely effective product and keeps your pets safe from fleas, ticks, and any diseases that the fleas and ticks potentially carry. However, is giving or applying Bravecto safe for your pet? Yes, Bravecto chews and Bravecto Topical for dogs are safe for use in dogs, and Bravecto Topical for cats is safe for use in cats. More specifically, Bravecto Chews and Topical for dogs is safe and effective in dogs over 6 months of age and weighing at least 4.4 pounds. Bravecto Topical for cats is safe and effective in cats over 6 months of age and weighing at least 2.6 pounds.
Bravecto has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), meaning the FDA decided that the benefits of Bravecto outweigh the potential risks. In fact, field studies have shown that Bravecto is safe at up to 3 times the recommended dose.
For Bravecto Chews, a well-controlled U.S. field study that included 294 dogs was held and no serious adverse reactions were reported. The most frequently reported side effect in dogs was vomiting. Similarly, Bravecto Topical for cats and Bravecto Topical for Dogs don't have any serious adverse reactions, and the most common adverse reaction is vomiting.
There are no known drug interactions for Bravecto; however, you should always check with your veterinarian before giving your pet other prescription or over-the-counter medications.
