What is Diltiazem Compounded?
Diltiazem is a calcium-channel blocker which is used for the treatment of hypertension, atrial fibrillation and some tachycardia. It works by reducing the contractility of the heart and dilating main arteries in the body. Compounding is beneficial in instances where a specific dosage is unavailable or in different forms to make it easier to dose your pet. Diltiazem Compounded requires a prescription from your veterinarian.

How it Works:
Diltiazem works by reducing the contractility of the heart and dilating main arteries in the body.
Cautions:
Should be used with caution in older pets or those with heart failure. Most common side effects are decreased heart rate, lethargy and vomiting. Should be used with caution in pregnancy and during nursing. May interact with other drugs such as benzodiazepines, beta blockers, cisapride, digoxin and cyclosporine.
