Vet Review | Another wonderful joint treat for dogs are the Greenies Joint Care Dog treats. These treats include a synergistic mixture of glucosamine, chondroitin, and omega 3 fatty acids for healthy joints. The amino acids in the product help maintain normal cartilage health. I also love the fact that these treats contain the ingredient the green-lipped mussel, which has been shown in human research trials to be effective for management of arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Additional minerals of zinc, copper and manganese also support healthy joint function and mobility. I give these tasty treats an overall rating of 4 out of 5. | One of the most versatile and effective products I have used in practiceis Super Joint Enhancer from 1800petmeds. I have found it both helpful in older pets with increasing stiffness and spinal or joint arthritis, but also helpful in those pets recovering from surgeries. Compared to other products on the market it is quite cost effective with its synergistic combination of glucosamine and chondroitan sulfate and MSM. While relief is sometimes seen very quickly, more commonly it takes several weeks to see results with a nutritional supplement like this. I also find that it works best when used in conjunction with other nutritional supplements for the joints such as the antioxidant proanthozone, as well as fatty acids like be well from 1800petmeds. The only disadvantages I have seen with use of this product in my experience is occasional diarrhea in sensitive pets, and even more rarely problems with sugar regulation in diabetic animals. Otherwise I highly recommend this wonderful product!!!! I give this product an overall ranking of 4.5 out of 5. | One of my favorite long term and reliable joint supplements that has been out for years is the product Glyco-Flex classic by Vetri-Science. The main ingredient in this wonderful product, known as perna canaliculus(the green lipped mussel) has many years of clinical research behind its use in the human field for helping treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. This product was the very first offered by one of the most trustworthy and reliable companies in Vetri-Science, and was the basis for many of their other wonderful Glyco-Flex products. This product helps to maintain healthy joints and connective tissue health, and so it is an excellent product to use as a preventative in those pets predisposed to hip or joint problems. The only cautions I can bring up is to check with your veterinarian if a pet is diabetic, as well as if there is a history of urinary tract stones. I find that any digestive side effects are prevented by giving the chewable supplement with food. It should also be avoided in pregnant and breeding animals. I give this product an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5. |
