Vet Review | I recently completed a small clinical trial using the Flea 3X topical product for cats. And I must say that the initial reports on the safety and efficacy of this product has been excellent. With the main ingredient being the tried and tested fipronil, this product is very effective in controlling fleas, ticks and chewing lice. Clients have loved the economic savings of this generic alternative product to Frontline. It is also manufactured exclusively in the United States, as well as carrying the trustworthy and reliable 1-800-PetMeds brand on the packaging and label. Thus far, clients have reported back that fleas and ticks are killed very rapidly, and that protection lasts for up to several weeks. I therefore can highly recommend this product to all of the feline guardians as a wonderful and economic alternative to more expensive topical products on the market. | For my clients who prefer an effective non-pesticide manner of preventing and controlling fleas on their dogs and cats, program offers a wonderful alternative. When this product first came out, I used to educate my clients on the fact that it was in essence a birth control pill for fleas. The main ingredient lufeneron is an insect growth regulator that does not kill adult fleas, but sterilizes adult fleas and prevents them from laying eggs that develop into larvae and future adults. Each adult flea can lay up to 2000 eggs in its life. It is because of this effect on flea development which makes program such a wonderful preventative. For existing flea infestations, I don't find this product works as well unless it is combined with oral Capstar, which kills adult fleas on cats and/or topical products like Frontline or Advantage. I have found this product both very safe and effective with only rare side effects seen i.e rare digestive upset. It is best given with a meal for maximal absorption which is hard on some kitty owners My overall rating of this product is a 4 with ease of use a 4, taste a 4 and efficacy a 5, in particular for preventing flea infestations before they become established. | Sentinel is a wonderful combination of the heartworm prevention pill interceptor and the flea control product program both in this one pill. Many clients enjoy the convenience of having such broad acting internal and external parasites in one pill, without having to worry about giving two separate medicines. Lufenuron, which is the main flea control ingredient, stops the flea life cycle in its track at the egg and larval stage, thus being like a birth control pill for fleas who get on our pets. Given that the main problem of fleas is how rapidly they reproduce, this pill literally stops escalating growth of flea populations, before they can become established in our homes, where most of the flea life cycle occurs. The main disadvantage to this product is that it does not kill or repel adult fleas, so in situations with already established heavy infestations, it is best combined with a great topical product like advantage or front line or with the oral adulticide flea pill Capstar for maximal effect. The only other rare disadvantage I see is the slight increase in reactions when two products are combined into one like this, but fortunately this is not common in clinical practice. With milbemycin for prevention of heartworms and controlling and treating most common intestinal worms, I overall highly recommend this versatile product. |
