Vet Review | When I first saw this product introduced several years back at a holistic veterinary conference with other veterinarians, I was initially quite skeptical about all of the touted ingredients and clinical responses with this product. At the time, the product representatives also had before/after photos of dogs who had used this product, and what a huge difference it made on coat issues, digestive issues, joint issues, etc.. and I remember how we were all so excited to get back to our practices and start using this very versatile product to see if it really made a difference in dogs. And in my many years of using this product I have not been disappointed. While its main ingredient is organic flax seed as a rich source of health promoting omega 3 fatty acids, this super supplement is also chock full of other antioxidants and nutrients like green tea, lecithin, kelp and other wonderful ingredients. Together they truly provide the "missing link", which is lost in the high temperature processing and cooking of today's commercial dog foods from the supermarket and even those sold at vet offices. Dog guardians can use this product for wellness and preventative health, as well as to help manage coat/skin allergy problems, digestive issues, and joint problems. It is very economical, lasting a few months at least in mid sized dogs. The only rare side effects I have seen is occasional diarrhea in dogs sensitive to added fat to their diet, which usually can be minimized by gradually building up to final recommended dose on bag over 1-2 weeks. Occasionally a pet wont eat it, but most of my patients love the flavor. My overall rating is a 4.5. The effectiveness is a 4 and the taste is also a 4. | While the usual glucosamine/MSM combination products may be an important component of a comprehensive arthritis preventative and treatment program(such as the Flexadin plus product), as these conditions become more advanced over time, it is important to understand that additional supplements and/or prescription medications may be needed in our companion animals. For years, holistic veterinarians have employed collagen/cartilage products as part of this management program, and recently, this outstanding product was developed along these lines, and is backed by years of clinical studies and efficacy. I will often add this product to pets already on Flexadin plus or similar glucosamine/MSM products, especially when conditions are more advanced. The collagen in this product often significantly helps with easing stiffness and promoting mobility and flexibility in a synergistic manner with the glucosamine products. Advantages of this product include a "one size/dose fits all" formulation, as well as no loading dose required. It does require a few weeks to reach maximal effect but I have seen wonderful results with this and similar products of its kind. The chewable formulation also stays fresh much longer in the newer packaging. I give this product an overall rating of a 5. | One of the most versatile and effective products I have used in practiceis Super Joint Enhancer from 1800petmeds. I have found it both helpful in older pets with increasing stiffness and spinal or joint arthritis, but also helpful in those pets recovering from surgeries. Compared to other products on the market it is quite cost effective with its synergistic combination of glucosamine and chondroitan sulfate and MSM. While relief is sometimes seen very quickly, more commonly it takes several weeks to see results with a nutritional supplement like this. I also find that it works best when used in conjunction with other nutritional supplements for the joints such as the antioxidant proanthozone, as well as fatty acids like be well from 1800petmeds. The only disadvantages I have seen with use of this product in my experience is occasional diarrhea in sensitive pets, and even more rarely problems with sugar regulation in diabetic animals. Otherwise I highly recommend this wonderful product!!!! I give this product an overall ranking of 4.5 out of 5. |
