| Vet Review | While this collar is marketed to quickly kill fleas, eggs and larvae for up to 8 months and ticks for up to 6 months, I personally have concerns about the safety of the main ingredient propoxar. This powerful cholinesterase inhibitor can cause serious side effects in some pets from digestive upset to respiratory difficulties to neurological problems on rare occasions in my experience and opinion. I am also concerned about human, especially child exposure to such a strong pesticide. While it is a nice benefit that the collar is water proof and works quickly, as well as being an economic alternative for those cost conscious clients, because of my safety concerns and my experience with partial efficacy, I can not recommend this product to my clients. I give this product an overall rating of a 2, with an efficacy a 2, ease of use a 5. | I recently completed a small clinical trial using the Flea 3X topical product for cats. And I must say that the initial reports on the safety and efficacy of this product has been excellent. With the main ingredient being the tried and tested fipronil, this product is very effective in controlling fleas, ticks and chewing lice. Clients have loved the economic savings of this generic alternative product to Frontline. It is also manufactured exclusively in the United States, as well as carrying the trustworthy and reliable 1-800-PetMeds brand on the packaging and label. Thus far, clients have reported back that fleas and ticks are killed very rapidly, and that protection lasts for up to several weeks. I therefore can highly recommend this product to all of the feline guardians as a wonderful and economic alternative to more expensive topical products on the market. | An exciting and brand new product now available combines the main ingredient of Interceptor milbemycin with a powerful flea insecticide known as spinosad. Given as a once monthly heartworm preventative, this product also will control and prevent whipworms, hookworms and roundworms, in addition to preventing heartworms. The additional ingredient spinosad allows effective flea and these internal parasite control all in one pill, making it quite convenient for clients. As with any pesticide rare digestive tract and neurological side effects may occur but this has not been a major problem in clinical trials. Since it is relatively new I will have to see how this product performs on the fleas but it seems to have excellent potential. I give this product an overall rating of a 5 with an ease of administration a 5 as well, taste a 5. |
