Vet Review | Belonging to the latest generation of flea/tick parasiticides(known as Isoxazoline medications), these palatable, beef flavored chewable tablets kills fleas quite effective, with most adult fleas being killed within 8 hours. One of the downsides, as compared with Vectra 3D is that Credilio does not repel either fleas or ticks, and has no effect on biting mosquitoes, which are the main vectors that transmit heartworms to dogs. Credilio and products of its class are one of the most effective products against several species of severe disease transmitting ticks, including ones that transmit Lyme Disease, Ehrlichiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Anaplasmosis, which have been increasing in incidence in recent years. As with other members of this drug class, we have also used this drug in treatment and prevention of both demedex mites and scabies mites, although this is an off label use. Giving with a full meal reduces risks of digestive reaction. Overall the tablet is well tolorated, but occasional diarrhea, vomiting or digestive upset is seen. I would look to one of the other products like Vectra 3D, if there is a history of significant neurologic disease or seizures. I give this product an overall rating of a 4 out of 5. | There is an outstanding new comprehensive internal and external parasite control product called sentinel spectrum, which combines 3 excellent worming medications that treat and prevent a wide variety of parasites from heartworms, intestinal worms ranging from tapeworms to whipworms, as well as controlling flea infestations. That is 6 types of parasites controlled with one pill. That is a wonderful benefit of this product, along with the tastiest beef flavored tablet. The only down side to this product in my experience and opinion is that it does not kill or repel fleas, but breaks the flea life cycle by preventing adult fleas from laying eggs, as well as killing the eggs. Adult fleas still may bite your dog, which may cause allergic dermatitis in some sensitive animals. I have also seen occasional pet vomit on this product, which is usually avoided by giving with a meal. A wonderful benefit over topical parasite control measures is that by combining all of the wonderful ingredients into a pill formulation prevents exposure of the humans in the household to chemical pesticide residues. I give this product an overall rating of a 4, with a taste of 4 and ease of use of a 5. | For clients that prefer an outstanding topical medication that has thus far had an excellent record of efficacy against both fleas and ticks. This product includes 3 very powerful and synergistic flea/tick pesticides that work in slightly different ways, with one preventing development of flea eggs and larvae, while another ingredient quickly kills; killing probably the fastest of any products on the market, starting to act within 5 minutes. Ticks will take somewhat longer, but within 2 days most ticks are killed. The addition of the permethrin ingredient does add the benefit of this product in BOTH repelling and killing ticks, , as well as the additional benefit of killing and repelling mosquitoes, the main vectors of heartworm disease in dogs and cats. As with other topicals, occasionally pets will develop an irritation or sensitivity at the sight of application, with some pets being occasionally restless, agitated, or fidgety. On rare occasions vomiting and/or diarrhea may be seen but this has not been much of a problem in clinical practice, where most pets seem to tolerate the product quite well. While the trio of main ingredients in this product seem to provide additional efficacy and coverage of various stages of the external parasites, including the benefit of repelling them, I am always a bit cautious about combination products like this, which rarely may lead to unknown chronic side effects that we are not yet aware of. With that consideration, this product is still an excellent and effective choice. I give this product an overall rating of 4 out of 5. |
