Vet Review | When I first saw this product introduced several years back at a holistic veterinary conference with other veterinarians, I was initially quite skeptical about all of the touted ingredients and clinical responses with this product. At the time, the product representatives also had before/after photos of dogs who had used this product, and what a huge difference it made on coat issues, digestive issues, joint issues, etc.. and I remember how we were all so excited to get back to our practices and start using this very versatile product to see if it really made a difference in dogs. And in my many years of using this product I have not been disappointed. While its main ingredient is organic flax seed as a rich source of health promoting omega 3 fatty acids, this super supplement is also chock full of other antioxidants and nutrients like green tea, lecithin, kelp and other wonderful ingredients. Together they truly provide the "missing link", which is lost in the high temperature processing and cooking of today's commercial dog foods from the supermarket and even those sold at vet offices. Dog guardians can use this product for wellness and preventative health, as well as to help manage coat/skin allergy problems, digestive issues, and joint problems. It is very economical, lasting a few months at least in mid sized dogs. The only rare side effects I have seen is occasional diarrhea in dogs sensitive to added fat to their diet, which usually can be minimized by gradually building up to final recommended dose on bag over 1-2 weeks. Occasionally a pet wont eat it, but most of my patients love the flavor. My overall rating is a 4.5. The effectiveness is a 4 and the taste is also a 4. | NA | One of my favorite long term and reliable joint supplements that has been out for years is the product Glyco-Flex classic by Vetri-Science. The main ingredient in this wonderful product, known as perna canaliculus(the green lipped mussel) has many years of clinical research behind its use in the human field for helping treat osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. This product was the very first offered by one of the most trustworthy and reliable companies in Vetri-Science, and was the basis for many of their other wonderful Glyco-Flex products. This product helps to maintain healthy joints and connective tissue health, and so it is an excellent product to use as a preventative in those pets predisposed to hip or joint problems. The only cautions I can bring up is to check with your veterinarian if a pet is diabetic, as well as if there is a history of urinary tract stones. I find that any digestive side effects are prevented by giving the chewable supplement with food. It should also be avoided in pregnant and breeding animals. I give this product an overall rating of 4.5 out of 5. |
