Preferred Choice but need smaller can/pouch option
I prefer to give this to my senior cat with early stage kidney disease over other options because it's still grain free without the by products the other prescription brands have, however like other reviewers would prefer a smaller can option or even better would be snack size portions as our cat tends to graze and doesn't care for it after it's been refrigerated. We have found that if we puree in blender with a little extra water he prefers the consistency overall. Steaming versus microwaving it once it's been refrigerated also seems to help...but it's so much extra work that wouldn't be needed with smaller cans or snack size pouches.

Glad to see my little man eating well!
Our 5 year old cat was diagnosed with CKD in October. He's so young to already have it but we are doing everything we can to help him. I did a lot of research when he was diagnosed and this food seemed like the most natural with no by-products. It took him a while to get used to it and for us to figure out how he liked it prepared, especially after having to refrigerate it. Sometimes the consistency is like peanut butter and we have to add water for him to be able to eat it but the most recent batch was smooth and nice. Also, sometimes the cans have a film of fat on the top which i scrap off and other times it looks great and there is no fat on top. It would be great if this food came in smaller cans. Our other cat has IBD and we have to feed him 3 days so they both get feed 3 times a day. It would make it so much easier if we didn't have to refrigerate it and reheat it since he loves to eat it fresh right out of the can. Otherwise, his coat looks amazing, he's back to his old self and we are very happy with how he is doing on the food.

Over all its great
My 2 cats have been eating this food for almost a year and also the dry food. They started with mild kidney disease and have had normal values since their first checkup. They would not eat any of the other brands. I do agree with other reviews that the wet food consistency varies and when softer my cats enjoy it, when it's drier they will not eat it. I also agree with the request for a 3 ounce can option. I would buy both. My cats will split a 5.5 can in the morning, In the evening they will eat less wet food and want dry, but my vet wants them to have mostly wet food. These guys will not eat re-warmed food. Please consider a small can option. Thank you for making this wonderful product and helping me to keep my cats well.

Quality control not always the best
My cat enjoys this food, but I am a bit frustrated that I never know what to expect when I order it. Sometimes it shows up looking normal, other times it shows up with a layer of what looks like chicken fat on it, and other times it is a very soft gloppy texture almost like pudding. The fatty ones and the extra soft ones make him have a little diarrhea. I do think the food is making a difference for him, I just think the inconsistency in the product, especially for the price, is frustrating.

My cat likes it
When our cat was diagnosed with ckd, we were offered prescription cat food by our vet. Like most cats, he hated it. We worked hard to transition him to the new food without success, and he was getting to be a bag of bones. Then we found out about the BB prescription diet, tried it AND HE EATS IT! He actually seems to like it (not as much as non-prescription food, but pretty well). He now looks thin but is no longer all bones when you pet him, and he seems to have more energy and a better attitude. I agree smaller cans (3 oz) would make life easier; at present we keep the open can in a cooler which is better than the fridge but still a nuisance. Thank you!

Finally, a kidney diet food my cat will eat!
My elderly cat was recently diagnosed with early stage kidney disease. She snubbed Purina ProPlan Veterinary Diets Kidney Function and Royal Canin Renal Support soft foods before we discovered Blue Buffalo sold this kidney diet formulation. Our girl has always eaten Blue Buffalo, so I took a gamble and purchased a case. She eats as much as she did of her previous soft food (Blue Buffalo Tastefuls).
Reduced to 4 stars given the price of the food and the fact that you must buy it a case at a time - not a great option for those who are shopping around for a kidney diet food their cat will eat.

Far Superior to Alternative Rx Foods
The ingredients are much higher quality in this food than other Rx brands. I add a small trickle of water to each new can, and my finicky cat loves it.

The only kidney cat food my 17 yo will eat
I purchased this several weeks ago for my 17 yo kitty whose lab work is showing kidney function decline. I've tried other brands and so far, this is the only one she seems to like!
