About this product

What is Methigel Urinary Acidifier?

Methigel Urinary Acidifier is a supplemental source of DL-Methionine and aids in maintaining a low urine pH. When combined with a proper diet, Methigel Urinary Acidifier helps maintain a healthy, natural urinary tract.

For:

Cats and Dogs (1+ year of age)

Benefits:

  • Helps eliminate urinary tract infections
  • Treats bladder infections
  • Aids in controlling urine odors
  • Easy to administer

How does Methigel Urinary Acidifier work?

The active ingredient in Methigel Urinary Acidifier is DL-Methionine, an amino acid that acidifies your pet's urine. Since bacteria don't thrive in an acid environment, this helps fight infections.

Cautions:

Methigel Urinary Acidifier should not be given to pets with severe liver, kidney or pancreatic disease. It should not be used with other urinary acidifying products. This product is not intended for use in pregnant or nursing pets. Give Methigel Urinary Acidifier with food, since it may cause gastrointestinal upset when fed on an empty stomach. Safe use in pregnant pets or pets intended for breeding has not been proven. If your pet's condition worsens or does not improve, stop product administration and consult your veterinarian.

Needs different type of container.
Methigel is difficult to measure due to consistency. After you squeeze all you can out of the tube, if you cut the tube open you will find 10% of the product you paid for is left in the tube. Unfortunate, but my dog needs this and I don't know of any other source.

Wonderful product!!!
Our 2 yr old black cat started having recurrent cystitis - had taken 2 rounds each of clavamox and Baytril and as soon as the antibiotics were completed the infection would return. Despite our greatest efforts of increasing hydration with more water access points and adding in wet foods - I found the methigel and mixed it into his daily wet food and he eats it right up!!! And we haven't had a flare up in close to 3 months now!!!!!

Breed Long haired yellow tabby male.
Worked great for my cat
My yellow tabby developed a severe urinary tract infection and blockage with crystals. He was screaming like a banshee all night, took him to Vet first thing in morning. He ended up spending nearly two weeks out of a month there as the problem returned a week after his first release, despite anti-biotics which he ended up taking for 2 months. Trouble is they tried every prescription food they had dry and wet CD, SD and Royal Canin or whatever it is. He wouldn't touch any of it, even once home and relaxed armed with sample packets he hated them. But he would take the Mithigel, liked it quite well and his PH gradually dropped to 6.0 and no blockages for 2 months now. I don't think you can beat this product for the price especially, but obviously it does not work for all cats. For cats that just don't like it, dabbing it on their legs they will of course lick and eat it with their strong instinct to keep the fur clean. I also recommend a couple of other things. After a lot of web searches many people who had the same problems with their cats refusing CD and SD found Purina has a prescription food called UR Urinary st/Ox for urinary tract problems and their cats liked it so in desperation I ordered, poured it in the bowl expecting him to walk away. Instead he gobbled it up and likes it and eats it up every day. This plus the Mithigel seems to have him on the mend. I also bought a two tiered drinking fountain to increase his hydration and he really seems to like drinking from the fountain and it has increase his water intake. Actually my other 5 cats like drinking from it too, it is filtered and they like the movement of the water I think. My vet said to keep him on Mithigel indefinitely.

Helps my dog
I have had my dog on Methigel about a month. We aren't having as many crystals forming and she is feeling much better. She has had struvite and calcium stones. This seems to make it much easier for her to go to the bathroom. She loves the taste, I took an old 1 tsp. measuring spoon and fill it for her every other day. She takes it without any problem and she doesn't have the bad odor caused by bladder infections. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

Breed Standard white cat.
Reduced My Cat's PH Level W/OExpensive Rx Food
One of cats had severe crystals and, after spending $1,300 for two emergency visits, the vet insisted on a very expensive prescription food...which the cat would NOT eat. After doing some research, I found this product, which contains the same ingredient in found the food. I smear it on his leg each night and he licks it off. (Other cats will eat it off plate!) Out new vet also had never heard of these kind of supplements, but when testing our cat found his PH to be 100% normal after going through about six tubes with no side effects. Many people love their cats, but cannot afford $4 per can for prescription cat food that they must feed their cat for the rest of it's life! Or they have other cats and separate feeding is impossible. Again, this is the SAME acidifying ingredient found in Rx food. It is odd more vets do not know about it.
