What is Apoquel?

Apoquel is used to treat and control itching and inflammation in dogs resulting from a variety of causes, including flea allergy, food allergy, contact allergy and atopic dermatitis. Apoquel delivers onset of relief within 4 hours. It effectively controls itching within 24 hours. Apoquel requires a prescription from your veterinarian, and is sold per tablet.

Suitable For:

Dogs over 12 months in age and weighing more than 6.6 lbs.

Benefits:

  • Provides onset of relief within 4 hours
  • Effectively controls itch within 24 hours
  • Safe for short term and long term usage
  • Can be used along with many other common medications, including parasiticides, antibiotics, and vaccines
  • Uniquely targeted to stop the itch with minimal negative impact on immune function
  • Controls pruritus associated with allergic dermatitis and controls atopic dermatitis
  • Sold per tablet

How does Apoquel work?

Apoquel is a selective janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor, which targets pruritogenic (itch creating) cytokines. It effectively controls itching due to food allergies, flea allergies, contact dermatitis, and atopic dermatitis. Apoquel works to control pruritus for fast-acting relief, and provides significant short-term and long-term reduction of itching and inflammation.

Cautions:

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Do not use Apoquel in dogs less than 12 months of age or those with serious infections. Apoquel may increase the chances of developing serious infections, and may cause existing parasitic skin infestations or pre-existing cancers to get worse. Consider the risks and benefits of treatment in dogs with a history of recurrence of these conditions.  New neoplastic conditions (benign and malignant) were observed in clinical studies and post-approval.  Apoquel has not been tested in dogs receiving some medications including some commonly used to treat skin conditions such as corticosteroids and cyclosporines. Do not use in breeding, pregnant, or lactating dogs. Most common side effects are vomiting and diarrhea. Apoquel has been used safely with many common medications including parasiticides, antibiotics and vaccines.
