Two years ago our senior cat was diagnosed with severe kidney function deterioration. The vet was suggesting IV fluids and other invasive [and expensive] treatments to help her "in her final months". Stunned, we started reading all we could on her condition and one particular product, AminAvast was recommended by several people caring for cats with the same diagnosis. She hated the special kidney diet prescribed and refused to eat it for days, losing a frightening amount of weight from her already thin frame. We bought this product and sprinkled it on her regular quality canned food... she lapped it up and begged for more. We decided that it was more important for her to maintain weight than try to force a change in diet or allow her to starve herself. [Cats can be very stubborn as cat people know] We hoped this product would help her. It has. She is still with us two years later and for her age, 21, is spry and alert. She gets a capsule sprinkled on her morning ration daily and seems to really like it, licking it eagerly off her food. She has a good appetite, although is quite lean. She drinks plenty of water, has no urinary problems. We have not given her IV hydration or any other treatments. She's doing so well, she even caught a mouse for us the other day.

My cat started on this about 3 weeks ago, she only weighs 5.8 lbs and has always been petite So giving her food that might be more calories etc isn't a concern to me. I bought the small containers of meow mix wet food it's like two different flavors kind of swirled. I use the very smallest amount I can and I put one of the capsules in the food and stir it up real good. I had to find the right bowl it she would eat it from. Because if it breaks up from being in a pile in the middle she has a tendency not to finish it. I found it as long as I don't put very much food in there she's more likely to finish the whole thing. I'm guessing it doesn't have any taste to it because it didn't phase her at all. Sometimes I do need to switch up the food that I'm using a different flavor or a different brand but we seem to keep coming back to the meow mix small wet containers with the two flavors in it. I've never fed them anything that was fishy so everything I feed them is got chicken or turkey in it. The vet gave her a shot of cerenia (sw?) because she was throwing up and we did good with that for two weeks and then she started throwing up again and since we need the food to stay in her I went back and we got another shot so hopefully that will help and eventually with this treatment she'll stop throwing up. I haven't had her numbers tested again as they said to wait about three months. Not sure I'll wait that long but she did gain 4 ounces in three weeks which is really good for her. I've read great reviews so I'm hopeful. She is 17 and I got her tested often but this is a time first time that this is come up so six months ago she had no signs of the beginning of kidney disease and now it's just starting.

My cat has been on this for years. He developed kidney damage and went into stage 1 CRF at the age of 7. His renal panels are now normal and have stayed that way for years.

Vet told me my cat's kidney function was way off. Bought this when a friend/vet tech recommende I try it. I use this in combo with RX food. When I took cat back to vet within 6 mos, her kidney function was completely normal. She isn't thirsty all the time anymore! Very pleased with results.

The vet put our kitty on this after her last check up. She has been eating more and even demanding food. We have had no problem with her avoiding food with this in it and we are thrilled with her change in energy. She has even been getting on to furniture to bask in sun spots. Something she has not been doing for a while. Thus the vet visit.
