About this product

What is Revolution® (Selamectin)?

Revolution® (Selamectin) is a safe and simple monthly topical medication used to protect your dog or cat from heartworms, fleas, and ear mites. Revolution® (Selamectin) is also used on dogs for the treatment or prevention of fleas, the American Dog Tick, ear mites, and canine sarcoptic mange. When used on cats it is also used to treat or prevent fleas, ear mites, hookworms, and roundworms. Revolution® (Selamectin) requires a prescription from your veterinarian. (3 Pack = 3 doses which lasts 3 months.)

Suitable For:

Dogs (6 weeks of age or older and no weight requirement), Cats (8 weeks of age or older and no weight requirement)

Benefits:

  • Protects your pet from heartworms and fleas
  • Fights both internal and surface parasitic infections
  • Treats Sarcoptic mange in dogs
  • Treats and controls ear mites
  • Controls American Dog Tick infestation
  • Treats and controls roundworms and hookworms in cats
  • Only administered once a month
  • Safe and easy to use

How does Revolution® (Selamectin) work?

Revolution® (Selamectin) works by penetrating the skin and entering your pet's bloodstream. Concentrations of selamectin, the active ingredient, in the tissue and bloodstream prevent heartworm disease. Selamectin also redistributes into the skin from the bloodstream and kills adult fleas, American dog ticks, and ear mites, and prevents flea eggs from hatching. It is also an anthelmintic, which means it fights to expel parasitic worms. Parasites ingest the drug when they feed on the animal's blood. Revolution® (Selamectin) is safe for pregnant and lactating pets.

Cautions:

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION: Do not use REVOLUTION on sick, weak, or underweight animals. Use only on cats 8 weeks and older. Use only on dogs 6 weeks and older. Prior to administration, dogs should be tested for heartworms. In cats, side effects may include digestive upset and temporary hair loss at application site with possible inflammation. In people, REVOLUTION may be irritating to skin and eyes. Wash hands after use.

Purchased/Receive ok.....can't get into pkg though
Product purchased and received fine from PetMeds...... I only know the product works when I have the yearly hearwork check done at Vets. This review is to bring up a concern with packaging............ I purchased these for years, and every now and then I have trouble getting the product packaging to open correctly..........The "plastic vile" needs to have that "cap pushed into the vile" so I can twist the cap and then apply it to my dog. 'tI mention this because over the last few years, I saved "four" of these UNOPENED viles..........I tried hard to push the top down and it wouldnt' push into the plastic vile. If I pushed any harder, the pkg looked like it would explode, so I STOPPED, and got another vile...placing the earlier one in a zipped plastic bag, to hopefully call about this. Was the plastic vile thickness increased, but the inside of Cap having the nub that punctures the vile "not improved"???? I realized at $160 for 6 viles, its not cheap. Now I have "4" that cannot be opened (across many delivered packages), I realize I wasted over $100 on tubes not able to be opened. I chose NOT to use a pin to open it, since I didn't want the product spilled all over. Catherine helped me at PETMEDS and said I need to contact the Revolution MFG company listed on pkg. I will copy PEDMEDS on the hardcopy letter I send so they understand how this problem is resolved. Great the plastic vile is nice and thick, but if that plastic nub under the cap cannot get into the vile, then you can't apply the product.

Works great, easy to use
I've had my two labs on Revolution since they were pups. Linus just turned 14 but, unfortunately his sister, Lucy, passed away at the age of 12. I have never had any problems with heartworms, fleas or ticks in all these years. We just rescued a little one year old beagle mix and she will be starting on Revolution next week! It's so easy to apply to the back of their necks the first day of each month, and then forget about it for another month.

A Revolution!
Sparky's Shih Tzu breeder uses Revolution on all of her canines, and provided a starter kit when I purchased Sparky. I've been using Revolution now for almost six years without any issues. It's a topical liquid, easy to apply and yearly heartworm tests are negative. In addition to preventing heartworm, it also covers intestinal parasites, ticks, and fleas. If one's pet is finicky about oral heartworm medicine, tends to spit it out, I suggest switching to a topical product like Revolution.
