Frequently Asked Questions

How do Denamarin Tablets work?

Denamarin comes in a tablet form that combines a pure S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe) with silybin to provide a one-two punch to keep your pets liver healthy. Silybin supports the flow of bile through the liver which helps with the digestion and absorption of nutrients from your pet's diet. Silybin also helps to regenerate liver cells and may enhance levels of the antioxidant glutathione, which helps to protect cells from toxins such as free radicals, to promote a healthy oxidative balance.

What is the most important thing I should know about Denamarin Tablets?

Denamarin liver supplement for dogs and cats is a patented nutritional supplement for veterinary use in dogs and cats. Denamarin combines a pure and stabilized S-Adenosylmethionine with Silybin to provide a multi-faceted approach to liver support, bile flow, and cell repair.

How should Denamarin Tablets be given?

For cats and small dogs up to 12 pounds give 1 tablet of the small size. For medium dogs 13 to 34 pounds give 1 tablet of the medium size. For large dogs 35 to 65 pounds give 1 tablet of the large size. For large dogs 66 to 120 pounds give 2 tablets of the large size, and for large dogs over 120 pounds give 3 tablets of the large size. The tablets should be given on an empty stomach at least one hour before a meal for optimal absorption, typically one hour before feeding in the morning. For owners who find it difficult to administer tablet(s) to their pets, Denamarin may be disguised in a small bite of food, and is also available in chewable forms. The number of tablets administered may be gradually reduced, or increased, at any time at the recommendation of your veterinarian. Tablets are sensitive to moisture and extreme heat and should not be split or crumbled.

What are the potential side effects of Denamarin Tablets?

There are no known side effects or documented drug interactions. Consult your veterinarian before dosing to prevent an allergic reaction or drug sensitivities.

What happens if I overdose my pet on Denamarin Tablets?

If your pet experiences an unusual reaction to Denamarin or a potential overdose, contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency clinic.

Dramatically lowered my older dog's enzymes
My 12 year old Shiba Inu had 850 liver enzymes. That's so bad and I was so stressed. She has been on this stuff for over 1 year and now her enzymes are about 420. I read some other reviews on how people are getting their dog to take the pill and I laughed because it's what I do also! I wrap a little thin slice of turkey or cheese on top and she takes it with no trouble.

Great for Diabetic Dogs
I have an 11 year old CHIHUAHUA dog and she takes 2 per day. Her liver levels were high however after taking this her levels went to normal. If you are having issues giving your dog this, Jiffy peanut butter will NOT harm your dog. It's the only peanut butter you can use that won't harm your dog. You can look it up. I use it every time and she takes this pill along with others with no issues. This pill is a must for dog's especially Diabetic Dogs and 1800 Pet Meds has the cheapest price.

Helping my dog's enzymes to go DOWN!
Like so many others, I had to figure out "the trick" to getting my dog to take these pills... For me the best thing was some cheap fake cheese, American cheese singles (pasteurized processed junk LOL), just wrap a thin coating/layer around the pill and down it goes!

Lowered liver enzymes in my senior dog!
My senior chihuahua had elevated liver enzymes and occasional nausea. The cause was unclear from tests. But all of her levels are back to normal after a month on this pill! I aimed for daily, but sometimes it was given every other day. My dog takes it without issue when it's covered with a little peanut butter. I gave it at night before bed, ~4-6 hours after her dinn.

How I get my cat to take:
I just wanted to share how I got my cat to take these extremely bitter pills after finding out she had extremely high liver enzymes. I tried old fashioned pilling--no matter what I did (butter, oil), the pill got stuck in her throat and she would vomit it up. I tried pill pockets. Lucy would bite it, then spit it out. I spent almost $100 (got the pills from the vet; took them to a pharmaceutical compounder to make them into a "treat" haha). Lucy would sniff the "treat" and run the other way. I got another bottle from the vet. I got a package of Pill Pockets. I bought a box of FortiFlora packets (you can get them here -- not cheap, but they'll last you a while). The vet told me not to break the pills as this would increase bitterness, but I thought what the heck? The cat has to have this or die. Broke the pill into smaller pieces; divided the Pill Pockets in half (I discovered if it was full size it would be too big and she'd bite into it), wrap each pieces in a half of a Pill Pocket, then--THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART-- put the little pill balls into a zip top sandwich bag and sprinkled about a 1/4 tsp of FortiFlora into the bag and rolled the Pill Pocket balls in the powder--kind of like making a sugared doughnut hole. I put them on the floor with a couple of favorite treats and she gobbled them up. She's been doing this for nearly a month now; we still need to check her liver enzymes again, but she seems so much better and I am so happy I finally found a way to get her to take her meds.

Breed Chihuahua-Pomeranian
Miracle drug
Before I start my review, I first wanted to tell the only way I can get my ten pound Chihuahua-Pomeranian to take this pill is peanut butter. I put the pill with a glob of peanut butter on the middle of her tongue and she is so busy licking her chops, she just swallows it. I have tried everything else--cream cheese, hot dogs, sliced cheese, and trying to put it down her throat. June 11, 2020, the third day my dog had been vomiting, I took her to pet emergency. I thought it was her kidneys and it turned out her liver was enlarged. She was acting normally when I took her in. There have always been dog food and treats she could not hold down. Science Diet dog food is the only thing I can give her and Science Diet beef jerky treats and Bil Jac treats. At pet emergency they decided to keep her overnight. The first test they gave her, the ALT was off the charts. The second one they gave her, the ALT was 2,654. They put her on liquids and gave her Denamarin. She was in the emergency hospital 41 hours. I brought her home and it took her about five days to get back to her normal self. I took her back to the vet a week later and her ALT numbers were going down. After two months her ALT numbers were normal. The vet decided to take her off the Denamarin, August 14, to see how she would do. I was a little nervous about it. I had read all the reviews about Denamarin. After two weeks, I noticed she might have been mouth breathing a little and maybe shivering a little. I made an appointment to have the liver values checked again. I had ordered Denamarin through Pet Meds. As soon as she had the bloodwork done, I put her back on the Denamarin I had ordered through Pet Meds. Two days after the bloodwork I got the results that the ALT was 700. If I had not immediately put her back on Denamarin an hour after the test, she would have had to go back to the emergency vet. Now she will be on Denamarin the rest of her life. I feel much better about it. I ordered seven boxes of Denamarin to get me through until May. The emergency vet cost $1800.00, so I want to prevent her from going back. She is back to her normal self, going for hour to hour and a half walks every day. I get the little blue Denamarin pills. She did not want to eat the bigger chewable pills.
